Waiting

Yes, waiting. For someone, anyone, to post something in the comments. You asked for it, you got it, now it's time to get writing.

But as usual, I digress. The writing prompt for today is:

WAITING! Describe a character waiting for something or a situation that involves waiting.

I may need to do two entries for this. :)

  1. She would arrive at any moment, Harris knew. She was extremely dependable, never giving him cause for worry. Parting the curtains in the living room window, he scanned the street, looking right then left. There was a man walking a small dog, but as yet, no sign of her car.

He sighed and went to the kitchen for a drink of water. He stood quietly after he drank, listening for the sound of the car in the driveway. All was quiet. He moved back into the living room and once again parted the curtains. The sun was now dipping to an angle that meant she was definitely late. He began to feel impatient; where was she? Didn't she realize he'd be worried?

The ticking of the clock was beginning to make him feel twitchy so he walked into the bedroom and threw himself across the bed. His stomach growled; he closed his eyes. He drifted off to an uneasy sleep. When he awoke it was dark. He heard the sound of her key in the door. He ran to greet her.

"I'm so sorry I'm late, Harris!" she cried.

    "Meow," he answered.
